Kunjian Liu

Kunjian Liu
This work is based on the investigation and research of the locally-made aluminum pot craft that was widely prevalent in rural areas of North China around the 1990s. This craft is a new process derived from traditional craftsmanship logic, which melts and casts industrialized precision-processed aluminum products (such as aluminum cans) into a new handicraft industry in a more primitive way. This "new craft" developed in reverse still satisfies the needs for industrial products in rural areas and less industrially developed regions to a certain extent. In the creative process of this work, the production process of locally-made aluminum pots has been restored, and the craft has been recorded, studied, and innovated from the perspective of viewing it as an intangible cultural heritage. Through design practice, this work re-examines the process and significance of industrialization, and explores the special relationship between precision industrial products in the context of industrial globalization and traditional handicrafts in the context of local development. This work is a tribute to all craftspeople.
